Serious brain injuries require specialized treatment.

A traumatic head injury caused by a sudden impact to the head, a penetrating wound that directly injures brain tissue, stroke, or oxygen deprivation can cause severe and long-lasting consequences. After an individual receives acute care, often long-term care and specialized therapies are needed to optimize the function and quality of life for the person who, in many cases, faces challenges in the future. In addition to difficulties with mobility and dexterity, adults with traumatic head injury need help regaining cognitive abilities as well as assistance with everyday tasks involving planning, money management, and personal care, to mention a few.

Specialized treatment in residential setting

Rose Meadow Farm and its new affiliate, Rose Meadow Garden, both located in New Boston, New Hampshire, provide specialized treatment in a residential setting. Within a home-like, community-centered environment, the NH head injury rehabilitation services provide both short- and long-term care that encompasses speech therapy, a therapeutic endurance gym that allows residents to maintain muscle integrity and range of motion, and where needed, provides tube feedings and maintenance of tracheotomy tubes.

Residents may need a range of personal care options; some participate in an independent living situation, while others avail themselves of the facilities' assisted living programs which provide help with medications as well as daily personal care tasks like laundry and housecleaning. Some residents require other services and receive 24 hour nursing care. Rose Meadow's case management services assess the needs of the residents and adjust the goals to support services provided.

Owners Joanne Devine and Dan Donovan recognize that a sudden traumatic head injury represents a challenge in a resident's life, and their mission is to provide as comfortable and supportive a setting as possible. Residents enjoy home cooked, family style meals, private rooms decorated to their own tastes, and, day trips into nearby communities.

The NH residential treatment program at Rose Meadow Farm and Rose Meadow Garden serves adults from New England and the greater Northeast because of the organization's easy access. In addition to adults with acquired brain injury, the owners foresee that veterans with brain trauma returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will find themselves in need of a treatment facility program such as Rose Meadow for post-acute care

Many of the residents of Rose Meadow's traumatic head injury treatment facility will move on after a period of therapy and successfully reintegrate themselves into their individual life styles. Others due to the magnitude of their injuries, may be medically compromised to the degree they require long term care in a group home setting. For both groups of people, this unique NH residential treatment facility offers the highest quality support from a dedicated, expert staff, in an intimate and caring environment
