Brain injuries require expert therapy in a supportive environment.

When head injury rehabilitation is necessary, a lot of support services need to come into play. A car accident, percussive war injury, or stroke can wreak havoc with an individual's mobility, intellectual capability, and mood, and coming back from such a physically, mentally, and emotionally traumatic event takes the cooperation of the person affected and a strong team of experts.

Rose Meadow Farm and its new affiliate, Rose Meadow Garden, offer residential treatment with a complete range of services for people dealing with traumatic brain injury (TBI), in a licensed residential care facility which specializes in treating people with acquired brain and spinal cord injuries. The brain injury facilities combine physical and occupational therapy with specialized life skills training. The brain injury facilities, located in New England, offer a low resident to staff ratio that allows the ultimate assistance to each person.

Residential treatment programs in a specialized setting

The concept of creating a group home for people with brain injury clients was the brainchild of owners Joanne Devine and Dan Donovan, who identified a gap in the availability of long term care for brain injury clients. Many conventional nursing homes and group homes cannot easily supply the specialized care needed, including 24 hour tracheotomy and feeding tube maintenance and care for residents with brain injury-induced seizure disorders.

A big part of the residential rehabilitation services at the Rose Meadow facilities is an emphasis on community reintegration, and the structured activity programs include trips to surrounding towns to help with the reintegration process.

Homelike amenities help residents retain a sense of normalcy during their treatment.

All of the private rooms in each head injury facility are decorated tastefully according to the wishes of the residents. All the meals are served in an individual atmosphere, with home cooking a priority. The setting is delightfully rural, with open pastures and a collection of domesticated animals ranging from cats and dogs to sheep, goats, chickens, rabbits ad a miniature horse. The original Rose Meadow is a gentleman's farm.

Daily hygiene is encouraged, with the assistance of the facility's devoted staff; the practice is made easier with the availability of two whirlpool tubs and a roll-in shower. The tubs have the additional advantage that their use promotes good circulation and wonderful skin integrity.

People with brain and spinal cord injuries from New England and the greater Northeast will find this NH head injury rehabilitation program an important step toward optimal function and a rewarding life. Whether they come for short- or long-term care, they will find their stay at Rose Meadow Farm or Rose Meadow Garden to be supportive and dignified.
